  • Prayer

A friend subscribes to this daily devotion and often shares with me...Thought I'd share this one with you today...Emphasis mine.

Subject: TODAY'S DEVOTION - GOD WANTS US TO PRAY

    Greetings Everyone,
I wanted to share a couple of thoughts with you from God's Word.

                                                                             GOD WANTS US TO PRAY

Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. -Genesis 25:21

It began with Rebekah, the wife of Isaac, who had a barren womb. She had no children, and it looked as though she never would have. In ancient times this was considered as a kind of curse, but it turned out that God was signaling great blessing to come. Barrenness was sometimes a symbol of promise in disguise.

Maybe you feel that you are in a similar situation, and you want something to happen. Perhaps it is to have a baby, to know a particular success, or to have a prayer answered, but you have come to a dead end. You ask, "Why?" Yet, maybe that which looks so bleak is God's way of saying, "Just wait a little while longer, and you will see all that I have done. I do everything with a particular strategy in mind."

Isaac prayed. One of the greatest mysteries that I know is the sovereignty of God in prayer. I know that God can do anything and doesn't have to answer to anybody, yet the same God tells us to pray. It amazes me. Perhaps you feel negative about the sovereignty of God, believing that there's no chance He'll give you mercy. Yet that's the point: God doesn't owe us anything. If we come to understand that, it might just put us in our place and lead us to pray.

Maybe the dead-end road you are on is God's way of trying to get your attention. When was the last time you prayed? How often do you pray? What is God doing to bring you to the place of prayer? Unanswered prayer is often God's way of getting our attention. You see, when we don't get what we want, we are more teachable; whereas when we are blessed, we can become more unteachable. God has a way of bringing you to such a place that you'll wait on Him.

    In Christ,
    Mike

  • Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Got a roast in the oven, cutting up cauliflower and cantaloupe to use during the week.  Planning to do a chicken stir fry that should feed me Monday & Tuesday of this week.  Got laundry going, SyFy stupid movie playing in the background.  The happy sound of Nate slamming doors in the basement.  180 pounds of Dog layin in my dining room.  Ahhhhhhh, life is sweet!

    I love Sundays.

When I was married, it was the day we leisurely woke, had coffee in bed and talked about life.  In the Fall and Winter months it was the day I made soup that we both took in our lunches all week.  While the soup was simmering I'd throw together some kind of bread and our home was filled with the aroma reminiscent of my Grandma's kitchen.  Sometimes I really do miss those days.

When I was by myself, divorced and Nate in the Army, I stopped making soup.  I only know how to make a lot and it was too much for me.  You can only freeze so many Glad Ware bowls before you forget what's in them.  Then started the practice of my brother coming over for Sunday dinner.  Unless it was football season and then he didn't have time since he coaches peewee's and it consumes his life.

Now Nate's home, my brother is still around and I cook on Sundays that I don't work.  I might be the only one here to eat, but that's become ok too.

    I'm so versatile, huh?

Yesterday was my first day off in 13.  I like the overtime, but I hate the hours.  I'm finally caught up in all my utilities after being off work for a year.  Feels good, even though I have $76 to keep me till the 15th and some weeks I have less.  I know there's a lesson in all of this but as of yet I haven't figured it out.  But I keep tryin.

Life is actually pretty good.  I have gas in the car and food in the fridge.  The wondrous thing about having to keep starting over is that you can let go of a lot of bullshit that you've accumulated since the last time you had to start over.  I've been humbled so many times in the past 7 or 8 years that I just can't imagine that I have further to go in that area.  But, I've been wrong before.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Today I feel like Super Woman  *g*

So..on to the update.  I'm happily still working at the hospital.  I have a good time with my coworkers and I've gotten "kudos" from some of the higher ups so I guess I must be doing something right.  I've been working a lot of hours since one of our girls has been off on sick leave for 2 months.  This next month is going to suck as far as my schedule, but it's work and it pays the bills so I'm not complaining.  I'm at the point that I can start looking for another position there (have to be there 9 months before you can bid on other jobs) but I think I'll stay where I'm at until my partner gets ready to leave and then I'll start looking.  I like the department I'm in and the work that I do, but the money really sucks for what we do.  And I wouldn't mind working 8-5 again instead of this 2:30-11 shift.

Nate has been laid off for about 2 weeks.  He's lookin, but as you all know, the economy is hitting every industry hard.  I have faith that the Resident in Chief will save us all soon though.  Hallelujah!

I'm still "seeing" John. I'm still not sure what "seeing" him means, but we're doin it  *L*  I really enjoy him but I really don't know why.  He is arrogant, obstinate, irritating.  He says he likes me because I'm aggravating and he is a glutton for punishment.  We have absolutely nothing in common, share very few ideas and convictions, are unsuited for each other in every way imaginable.  We'll probably end up married.

Um...something I've been meaning to ask - what did Sci-Fi channel think to accomplish by changing it's name to SyFy?  Still playing the same stupid "horror" movies.....Inquiring minds wanna know.

Ok, I gotta go cut up my chicken for the stir fry and iron some blouses for work this week.  Hope you all are doing well.
